David Bowie "China Girl" guitar lesson. The next Riff of the Day uses an Empress Compressor to produce a tight and percussive rhythm tone from the 80's. The famous solo by SRV in "China Girl" gets a lot of attention but few have shown the little intricacies in this classic rhythm guitar track. The intro riff demands a graceful touch as the slides up and down the neck are just as important as the notes they land on. The G to Am progression also includes some great tricks to keep it interesting such as switching to Gmaj7 or Gadd2. The guitar sound has a very light touch and the Empress Compressor does a great job at balancing the volume of each string while adding a percussive quality to the tone.
