Happy Monday gorgeous. I just showed this video on my Instagram and thought it would be helpful here as well. I know I'm talking a lot about pigmentation so please let me know if these video are helpful. .I think it's important to discuss all the reasons why pigmentation can come back and the physiology of how melanin is produced in the skin. When using hydroquinone it's important to remember that when you stop using, the pigmentation usually comes right back unless you use it with vitamin A and alpha-hydroxy acids. Pigmentation is produced in the epidermis in the basal layer by melanosome ( actual pigmentation producing cells) in the melanocytes. Melanin is a natural UV protectant and acts like an antioxidant helping to protect your skin cells from DNA damage from UV radiation. if you notice that your pigmentation comes right back it usually means that the DNA of the cell is damaged. So it continues to reproduce the old damaged cell until a new healthier cell is produced with takes time. Not much can be done until this changes. That's why we recommend using vitamin A and AHA's with hydroquinone. Using together can allow the HQ to penetrate more evenly and deeply resulting in a more unison formation of melanin production throughout the keratinocytes.
