In episode 911 Mike and the bots are subjected to a rather interesting experiment in filmmaking – what happens if you let a blind mongoose with attention deficit disorder cut your badly shot movie with a mallet?
Well, Devil Fish is what!
This movie is so randomly thrown together it looks not so much edited as tenderized – and I don’t have a clue what that even means.
Anyway, in Devil Fish we get to see some random nationalities pretending to be Floridians in their battle against a genetically created octo-shark.
Why would anyone make such a thing?
Well, you know, because… SCIENCE!
Oh, apparently the monster is supposed to secure the strangely named company WOI’s right to tap into the reserves of the sea. Now, how exactly this octo-thing is supposed to let them do that is anyone’s guess as the movie flat out refuses to tell us. So… SCIENCE!
All this could have been somewhat exiting if this battle between random stick people and a octo-shark didn’t primarily consist of watching them sitting around on a boat, drinking obscene amounts of beer, and having rather un-erotic sex – superimposed on top of themselves no less…
Anyway, the monster is finally defeated by pouring out gallons and gallons of gasoline into a glade and basically killing every living organism for miles around… Well, you win some you lose some.
Except for a rather schizophrenic script, which tries to juggle four different plots and several characters and failing miserably, and a soundtrack which seems to switch between the theme from Jaws played backwards and softcore porn music, there really isn’t a lot else to say about this movie, other than the credits should be a warning as to what to expect.
One of the screenwriters, Frank Walker, was also involved in the script for the dismal failure which was Operation Double 007 (MST episode 508), and one of the assistant directors, Gilbert Roussel (Bruno Mattei) directed Robowar – yes, ROBOWAR, with the ever screaming Reb Brown of Space Mutiny fame (MST episode 820).
Yes, this has quality written all over it, does it not…
Anyway, look out for a woman without flesh, Mrs. Killroy, something vague, Mr. Food the fishing guy, beer, the deploying of sea-dreidels, someone sitting on his mother’s head(?), envy of something being 40 feet long, a non-waterproof face, beer, a man unclogging his lawnmower with his feet, Euro-humour, flamethrower fishing, more beer, tiny medical centre starring tiny Chad Everett, a wired Viking, the adventurous life of a TV repair man, amoeba porn, tentacle difficulties, even more beer, a couple getting ahead of themselves, the scorning of electricians, general squirting of adrenaline, a woman displacing no water at all, human sushi, fishing for deep sea clowns, a boat powered by a face, substantial amounts of beer, action back fat, death by calamari, and gallons upon gallons of beer.
Enjoy (if you like beer).
