OrCAD PSpice Essentials - How to find the name of a part in OrCAD PSpice?

Oftentimes we need a specific PSpice part to perform a certain function, but cannot find the name for that part. PSpice’s search features solves this problem. After reading the steps below, you will be able to search and find any simulation-enabled part in OrCAD Capture for PSpice simulation.

Method 1 – Search generic parts: In Capture, go to Place →PSpice Component → Discrete → NMOS / PMOS / BJT, etc.

Method 2 – Search by model number: In Capture, go to Place → Part → LMB the “+ Search for Part” sign near the bottom of the window.

You’re going to search for generic transistor.
Make sure the search path is set to C:\Cadence\SPB_17.2\tools\capture\library\pspice. (you may have a D: drive or other drive).
Type “*MODELNUMBER*” (where MODELNUMBER is actually the number, like “TL494”. For example you can search *TL494*) into the search field and hit Enter.
All parts that having that model number in it will appear.
You can select which part you want.
If the model with that name is present and can be simulated, it will appear in the search results.
You can do this for any part whose model number you know.

Method 3 – Search by spec, parameter, description, name or model number: In Capture, go to Place → PSpice Component → Search.

Search for a part by description, name, model number, etc.

All the libraries that have parts that can be simulated are categorized in folders.

Enter search queries such as “1 A”, “4V”, “Transistor” “LM*”.
These searches will pull up parts that contain any of the search terms in the part’s:
name
model number
description

This means you don’t need a model number or name. You can put in some specifications and find parts that meet the needs for some on-the-fly design.

With the above three methods, you can find any simulation-enabled part in OrCAD Capture. Use these search methods to find parts, so you can test, simulate and validate your design.
