Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library (1)

Описание к видео Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library (1)

This video was filmed on March 6th and 13th, 2022 at Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library. Winterthur is an American Estate and Museum in Winterthur, Delaware. This magical place houses one of the most important collections of Americana in the USA. Winterthur was first purchased by E.I. DuPont between 1819 and 1818 And was used for farming and sheep-raising. Years later Henry Algernon and his wife Pauline settled at Winterthur in 1876. Their son, Henry Francis (H.F.) DuPont, who inherited the estate in 1927, was born four years later, in 1880. At the time Winterthur consisted of 90 buildings and over 2,600 acres. H.F. and his wife, Ruth renovated Winterthur’s manor tripling it’s size from 50 to his present 175 rooms. H.F. became a prominent collector of American decorative arts. He established Winterthur’s main building as a public museum in 1951 and moved to a smaller building on the estate. Today Winterthur is situated on 979 acres near Brandywine Creek with 60 acres of naturalistic gardens.
This is the first of two videos I will feature of Winterthur. This video focuses on the home, it’s immediate surroundings, including the East Terrace Garden, and the Inside Out exhibit. The second video will be filmed in late April or May when the gardens are in bloom. The next video of Winterthur will focus on the landscapes including a second visit to the East Terrace Garden. Thanks so much for stopping by, I appreciate your support. Enjoy! 🦄
