But once we hit debate season, this field is going to narrow down to a few finalists, weeding out the worst of the worst. People like Ted Cruz and Donald Trump will be distant memories, and we’ll be left with Republicans who are just barely sane enough to actually be elected president.

And if we want to get a glimpse of what could happen should one of these Republicans actually win the White House in 2016, the best place to look is at states that are suffering under Republican rule.
