According to the Ramayana, Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana spent 14 years in exile, or vanvas. He also stayed in the forest of Panchavati. The forest is named after the five banyan trees near where Rama built a hermitage. The path they took during their exile, known as Ram Van Gaman Path, begins in Ayodhya and ends in Sri Lanka.
