5 Years Ago... Aviation After Hurricane Maria (Puerto Rico 2017)

It is that time of the year were we Puerto Ricans are reminded of what transpired four years ago on our beautiful island, and were once again reminded of how devastating Mother Nature can be.

Spotting in the months of September and October, this features the highlights of some of the different countries that came to the help us during our time of need. From heavy aircraft to rotary aircraft, many of these aircraft could reach locations that other conventional vehicles could not, and brought humanitarian aid in large amounts to Puerto Rico.

On September 20, 2017, Hurricane Maria passed through Puerto Rico as a high-end Category 4 major hurricane, bringing destruction throughout the island and the Caribbean. As a result a major humanitarian crisis ensued; most of the island's population suffered from flooding and a lack of resources, as well as causing the worst electrical blackout in US history, which persisted for several months.
