Fly Fishing incredible creeks for giant brook trout!!

In this video Andrew and I hiked way into the wilderness in an attempt to catch some native Appalachian brook trout. We ended up finding every brook trout fisherman’s dream and came upon what I think was one of the biggest hatches I’ve ever seen on a brook trout stream. Andddd when it’s all said and done Andrew catches his personal best brook trout, which is a fish that many people spend years trying to catch. Welcome back to another video.

So what you just saw right there was me realizing in real time that several hatches were popping off at the same time. The amount of big bugs on the water was insane, I think it was a combination of sulfurs, green drakes, and some coffin flies. But whatever the case the fish were starting to react to them. So Andrew and I hustled up to a hole I knew historically had some large fish, which required a longer hike than I remembered. But when we got there it was some of the most insane brook trout action I’ve ever seen.

We ended up getting a rough measurement on that fish at right at 12 inches or just a tad over, but what makes that fish so impressive is the girth and the fact that it doesn’t even look like its at max size. But that hatch is solely to blame for Andrew catching that fish, because trust me I’ve fished that hole dozens of times without a fish over 10 inches being caught. But brook trout are such a weird fish to chase, because they’ll alternately seem like the easiest fish on earth to catch, then will completely humble you in the same creek on a different day. But that’s fishing, if it always worked out it wouldn’t be any fun.
