Where is Bangladesh’s Medium Range Surface-To-Air Missile Systems?
Bangladesh Air Force and the Bangladesh Army issued separate RFIs respectively in 2017 and 2020 to purchase medium range air defense missile systems from abroad. This program is known as the Medium Range Surface-To-Air Missile Systems or briefly the MRSAM. Both branches of the armed forces have their own requirements.
But, unfortunately no deal was signed with any vendor. China offered their HQ-16B, export variant’s name LY-80E, for the Bangladesh Air Force’s MRSAM tender. Due to the Rohingya crisis Dhaka moved away from the Chinese military hardware and weapons, as the regime’s mouthpiece said. On the other hand, Turkish missile maker Roketsan bid for both tenders. They offered their Hisar-O+ air defense system to Bangladesh.
Although there are several offerings Bangladesh has yet to conclude a deal to purchase Medium Range Surface-To-Air Missile System for its air force and army.
