Is it a good idea to “desensitize” your horse?

Personally I don't like the term “ desensitize” , I want my horse as sensitive as possible BUT it is our duty to prepare them for living in the human world, much the same as we have a responsibility to prepare our children for the adult world. It is however a delicate task which must be done with extreme care and attention to the horses expression. When done inexpertly the horse can end up more fearful and insecure. So yes, it is important to do it but with full awareness and honesty.
