I could probably have saved about 5-10 seconds on the Firelink Shrine routes had I decided to go straight for the drop down the final spiral staircase, but that's kind of inconsistent and risks dying to fall damage on one of the outcroppings on the way down to the actual arena, so I ran down the stairs a bit for consistency's sake.
