The Digital Battery Passport will be mandatory for most batteries sold in the EU starting in February 2027. In April 2024, the Battery Pass consortium of eleven leading international industry, technology and science organisations published the Battery Passport Value Assessment study. This new analysis sheds light on the benefits and challenges of digital product passports for batteries and underscores their strategic importance for businesses and policymakers. It presents the first comprehensive analysis of the qualitative and quantitative benefits and challenges of battery passports for businesses along the value chain, policymakers, and consumers.
During the webinar, we presented the key insights from the Value Assessment study. This was followed by a panel discussion in which experts from the battery industry and science discussed if the Battery Passport is merely a tool for compliance or if it can be a gateway to capture real business value. The event was well received with over 200 participants spanning industry, government, IT providers and non-profit organisations.
