Behind the Scenes 5: Announcement of the 2024 Millennium Technology Prize Winner!

The Winner of the 2024 Millennium Technology Prize was announced on 4 September: the one-million-euro Prize goes to Professor Bantval Jayant Baliga for his innovation that has revolutionized global electrification.

Baliga has invented, developed, and commercialized the Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT), a little chip that has enabled dramatic reduction in worldwide electrical energy and petrol consumption.

The TAF Board made their decision based on the proposal of the International Selection Committee, composed of eminent professionals from academia and industry with broad knowledge and collective expertise covering the fields of the Prize.
