I’m not saying you SHOULD try to look wealthy and expensive. I’m saying that you can if you want to. That’s the cool thing about style. You can use it to send certain signals to other people. And sometimes it makes sense to put forth a certain image, or project a certain status. For example, if you’re in sales, it would behoove you to look successful.

If someone is going to trust you to guide them through a big purchase, like a buying a car or house, they want to believe that you’re good at your job. How do we tell if someone is good at their job? We try to determine how wealthy they are.

In his book, Status and Culture, W David Marx says: “…money can also function as a vibrant symbol for other virtues , such as intelligence and hard work.” Sure, money is a flawed indicator, but in general, we do associate wealth with competence. Here’s the cool thing:
