LONDON (Tom Bosco) - Madison County Sheriff's deputies rounded up 26 of 31 people indicted on drug trafficking charges Wednesday, accusing them of dealing drugs in neighborhoods alongside families and children. The indictments stemmed from ongoing investigations in sales of heroin, cocaine and other drugs, said Sheriff James Sabin.

The arrests came as no surprise to one neighbor, who didn't want to be named.

"It's an everyday thing," the woman said. "You see the same thing, people in and out, in and out. The same people. The same cars."

Two people were arrested at a home at the end of the woman's street. Sabin said drug problems in Madison County reflect similar problems in the region.

"We are no different than everywhere else in Central Ohio," Sabin said.

Sixteen of those arrested lived in London and were dealing drugs out of their homes, Sabin said. The other 10 are from other parts of Madison and Delaware counties.

But the question is how long those accused drug dealers will spend in jail. Records from the Tri-County Jail show only eight of the 26 are still being held. The Sheriff also pointed to sentencing guidelines that tie the hands of judges and admitted Wednesday's victories may be short-lived.

"At this point, we're probably only getting them off the streets for a short time," Sabin said.
