Why do we go to the theater? To laugh, to cry, to get lost in fantasy worlds far from our own. But what happens when the visions of yesterday’s playwrights become the realities of today? Professor Sarah Bay-Cheng investigates how the imaginary worlds of antique dramas have been made possible through advances in modern science and technology, and ponders what contemporary theater can teach us about the world of tomorrow. Sarah Bay-Cheng is a professor and Chair of the Theater and Dance Department at Bowdoin College. Her research focuses on theater history, digital media, and contemporary performance. Mostly, she reads things, writes things, teaches cool stuff, and watches as much tv, movies, art, and theater as she can. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
