🌧️⚡ Gov. Kathy Hochul said there's a "very serious" weather event will move into the Tri-State area later Thursday, with up to 5 inches of rain possible through Friday.

Even though the sun was out Thursday morning, "this is going to be a major event later this afternoon for all of New York City, Long Island, Lower Hudson Valley," the governor said.
"Don't be complacent because it looks fine this morning—it will not be this afternoon," she said.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch from 2 p.m. Thursday to 2 p.m. Friday.

The governor noted that the second-heaviest rainfall in an hour was recorded during a storm in Central Park just two weeks ago.

"Climate change is still wreaking havoc on our weather system, and extreme is now the new normal, and I just want to make sure New Yorkers head out today with that thought in mind," Hochul said.
