Join AboutHere.TV to get a flavor of fine dining with a casual feel. My name is Jim Bril my wife and I Trish own the Monkey Cat restaurant in downtown Auburn. I started washing dishes when I was fourteen years old and still in the restaurant business except i own the dishes now. This building has been here since the late eighteen hundreds as a building as once was a butcher market and the general store grocery. The Monkey Cat is this illusive jungle creature that we've searched all over the world for finally was discovered right here in Auburn at 805 Lincoln way but it's uh there is a breed of little black cat with piercing green eyes which is our logo so it's kind of this exotic little creature that we've somewhat created but does exist. My wife is in charge of decorations and we've created this exotic theme in here with different local artists and different animal caricatures and photos and pictures to kind of create this casual tropical feel here. Our food style is somewhat eclectic. We cross the board with a name like Monkey Cat we can chase in many different directions. We have a wide range of salads for vegetarians that can either be used as a starter or an entrée. Such as a chef salad or a caesar salad with grilled chicken or salmon or prawns. We offer a wide range of vegetarian entrees. A vegetable wrap that we serve we do with cucumbers tomatoes sprouts we could do them all so with beef with chicken. All of our dishes are made to order so if there are dietary requirements anything can be created on spot. Our seared ahi is served over fresh arugula that we've peppered the outside crusted served medium rare with a wasabi vinaigrette. The scallops are one of the favorite we use diver scallops the jumbo scallops. We sear them and serve them over a risotto potato cake. All of our meats come from sustainable farms whenever we can including our veal chop which is milk fed hormone free and we char broil that. And the menu's quite extensive and it appeals to a wide range of tastes and flavors. Some of the dishes that are the favorites we have a seafood pasta with a thai coconut broth. It's a dish with all seafood clams mussels whatever's seasonal. Shrimp calamari we do a variety of preparations with it from a thai coconut broth to a chipino. We do have a full bar. I have thirty five wines by the glass. Many of them all of the local favorites that are featured here of the sierra foothills. A nice feature that we have that we're able to use most of the year is our outdoor dining space could be used at private parties. Others under the pull up bar despite this becoming quite the social scene. Another feature of our restaurant is a private dining room. We've used it for cocktail hors d'oeuvres party's social gatherings and also professional presentations. Wedding rehearsals we can customize a menu to fit your needs.
