In today’s quickie review we are going to look a the Hurtta Sun and Bug Blocker.

Hurtta is a Finnish company making dog apparel. Their whole line looks like stuff you’d see in a spy movie about dogs, but it’s made for consumers. The sun and bug blocker is designed to protect your dog from mosquito and tick bites and block UV rays in more demanding conditions.

Thanks to its thin and breathable material, the suit is comfortable and unobtrusive to wear. The flexible material does not restrict movement but it can be cumbersome to put on. After a few tries, Dewey and I got pretty good with it.

The Clarian Sanitized finishing is a Permethrin-based repellant to protect your dog from biting insects. Textiles with Sanitized finish are tested safe for dogs/people it's used in army fatigues, hiking and hunting equipment as well as in tents and sleeping bags.

And that’s exactly why I feel like Hurtta is a cover for a european spy agency, for dogs.

Anyway, the finishing also protects your dog's skin from the sun's harmful UV rays. (UPF 40+) Short-haired and hairless breeds will benefit from the Sun & Bug Blocker overall when exposed to prolonged sunshine at the beach or when walking, boating or hiking

Our Veterinary advisor, Dr. D, has also recommended similar suits for dogs with dermatitis.

Dewey had no trouble swimming in the suit, but getting out of the water was a clumsy effort, as the suit had snagged his hind leg.
