Dean dies. He's killed by vampires.
It seems Jensen was not entirely "on board" with the finale even after his conversation with Eric Kripke, as he has since made some comments about Dean never being beaten by vampires.

He's remained relatively silent on the finale since it aired, but these clips are interesting looking back now.
