This is a recording of the regular monthly meeting of the Norwalk River Watershed Initiative on January 16, 2025.

Present at the meeting are:
Chris Sullivan, SWCD
Kathleen Holland, Town of New Canaan
Tony Gonçalves, Town of Lewisboro
Mike Conklin, Town of Wilton
Emma Coffey, CT DEEP
Nikki Spiller, Harbor Watch
Louise Washer, NRWA
Gerald Berrafati, Trout Unlimited
Jon Vander Werff, Trout Unlimited

Meeting Events:
•Introductions- 0:06
•SWCD Updates- 2:50
•NRWI current account balance is $37,311.61. Includes member contributions from New Canaan and Wilton, still waiting for contributions from other municipalities.
•Updates on Actions- 3:32
•Grant Updates- 3:52
•LISCIF grant for rain gardens in Norwalk still in QAPP phase.
•LISFF grant for green infrastructure evaluations with UConn Stormwater Corps (New Canaan, Wilton, Norwalk) waiting for feedback on which projects municipalities would like installed. Additional design work will be next step.
•Sea Grant WBP update is in early planning phrase, team at Tighe & Bond working on QAPP.
•Continued Business- 6:53
•Ms. Coffey discussed mitten crabs in Norwalk Watershed.
•New Business- 9:46
•Mr. Sullivan and Ms. Coffey discussed a partnership to research algal community in Norwalk Embayment.
•Ms. Coffey and Ms. Spiller talked about the Norwalk Urban Waters Initiative.
•Ms. Washer talked about UConn report on neonics in CT waters.
•Ms. Holland discussed the Aquarian transmission line project in New Canaan.
•Ms. Holland also mentioned outreach efforts to increase awareness on enviro tech that could help with clean up in local waters.
•Ms. Spiller talked about Harbor Watch efforts to expand trash reduction mission.
•Mr. Sullivan shared that DEEP has an Urban Forested Natural Areas and Riparian Corridor Restoration Grant open for those who may be interested. (Deadline Jan. 31)
•Mr. Vander Werff and Mr. Berrafati shared Trout Unlimited is planning a watershed walk along the Norwalk River on February 22. (Register here: https://tu.myeventscenter.com/event/N...)

Next meeting is scheduled for February 20, 2025 at 2 pm.
