April 25, 1993 - Bill Laimbeer and Rick Mahorn—the two founding members of the Detroit Pistons Bad Boys contingent—never stopped having fun once the two were separated in 1989. It's just, their definition of fun may have evolved a bit over time. As teammates with the Pistons, it meant doing photoshoots for Rolling Stone while teaming up to pummel the likes of Larry Bird and Michael Jordan. And then there was the 1992-93 regular season finale. Everything was flipped upside down by then. Rick Mahorn was in New Jersey. So was former Pistons head coach Chuck Daly. The Nets were going to the playoffs. The Pistons weren't. Dennis Rodman was lounging on the sideline, going through the motions during his final game in Detroit.

And so, at age 35 and with less than half a season left in the tank, Bill Laimbeer may have even got a little sentimental when he saw Rick Mahorn filling a lane in the open floor. Like old times, as though Mahorn were Byron Scott or Scottie Pippen or Scott Wedman, Laimbeeer laid down the lumber one last time, sending Mahorn to the stripe to earn his points.

Laimbeer went on to retire 11 games into the 1993-94 season (but not before posting a three-game stretch in which he averaged 20 points and 7 rebounds on 67 percent shooting). He and Mahorn have been frequently attached at the hip in their post-playing days in Detroit. They both worked as voices on Pistons broadcasts, Mahorn stood in as Laimbeer's assistant with the WNBA's Detroit Shock, and every Bad Boys reunion inevitably includes a moment in which homage is paid to the original founders.
