Episode 2 of Beyond the Classroom highlights Sheri Fox, who has been shaping voices, confidence, and civic thinking at Berea City Schools for 33 years.

As a social studies and government teacher, Ms. Fox is known for creating a classroom where students are engaged, thoughtful, and willing to speak up. She values the moments when students take ownership of their learning. When they debate issues, share opinions, and teach one another, she knows the work matters.

Beyond the classroom, Ms. Fox advises LEAD, a student-driven club focused on awareness, inclusion, and connection. Through events like Immigration. This Is My Story, Mix It Up Day, Black History Month initiatives, and Sharing the Tea with Phenomenal Women, she supports students as they design experiences that reflect their voices and values.

Her teaching is rooted in care. One quote has guided her career. “Students do not care how much you know until they know how much you care.” That belief shows up in everything she does, from inviting community leaders into her classroom to helping students connect coursework to real life through nonprofit projects tied to causes that matter to them.

Ms. Fox’s story also reflects the strength of community. After the loss of her son Kevin in 2012, the district rallied around her family. His legacy lives on through organ donation and the LifeBank Team Fox, honoring his goal to help others.

Her advice to students is simple and lasting. Be true to yourself. Work hard. Use your talents to make a difference.
