Wicked Implement is a 180 RPM scout, and comes with the perks Corkscrew Rifling, Accurized Rounds, Tithing Harvest, and Fitted Stock. It comes with the exotic perk Creeping Attrition, where rapidly landing precision hits causes targets to become slowed. This seems to activate after 4 shots in PVE, with Carl starting to form crystals. The 6th shots caps out the slow stacks and freezes him. Tithing Harvest states that precision final blows while Creeping Attrition is active spawn a stasis shard that returns to you, and collecting stasis shards from any source refills the magazine. From the perks alone, it’s clear that this gun is meant to be a champion stunning monster. Overload champions will be stunned by the 4th shot, and Unstoppables will be stunned by the 6th shot and subsequent shatter. While it does not have intrinsic anti-barrier properties, the Wicked Implement has the ability to freeze Barrier champions before they raise a shield. Because it shoots at 180 RPM, we can freeze any champion in 2 seconds, assuming that we fire that the absolute maximum speed.

Let’s dive a little deeper. The reason why this gun is not a bottom-feeder is because it can freeze targets without a kill being required. This makes Wicked Implement a prime contender for the Stasis fragment Whisper of Rending, which states Primary ammo weapons do increased damage to Stasis crystals and frozen targets. As you can see on Carl, without the fragment, our precision damage while he is frozen is 4270. With the fragment, however, this damage shoots up to 6404, an approximate 40% increase in damage. If you choose to run a stasis build of any type, this gun is going to be buffing itself without needing to invest in surge mods. I realize that primary weapon damage is somewhat like splashing water in the face of combatants, but 40% is a substantial buff against minors and majors in GMs and high level content.

When we combine this gun with Stasis subclasses, real magic happens. We’re going to provide our selves constant freezes, and total control over the battlefield. When we use any one of Aspects that spawn Stasis shards, we can refill our magazines in an instant, for unlimited slows and freezes, without the need for charged abilities. Wicked Implement meshes so well with Glacial, Tectonic, and Grim Harvest, iceflare bolts for warlock, and Diamond Lance for titans. Don’t forget about whisper of chains for damage resist, whisper of hedrons for free stats all around, whisper of bonds for bonus super energy, and whisper of hunger for additional melee energy. We are looking at a weapon that is practically begging you to go all in on Stasis.

Beyond that, the gun feels good. It has a 15 round magazine that can be refilled via Tithing Harvest, and boasts a 94 recoil direction, so it doesn’t bounce around that much. It handles fairly well, so Bungie nailed the stats department. The appearance is definitely something, the front looks a little like a spiky, fleshy appendage, and the back reminds me of bioluminiscent jellyfish, like the one shown on screen. I like how Bungie tied the theme of the season to the look of the gun, but I feel that the ornament does not do it justice at all. However, this gun has divisive opinions, with some saying that it is only viable in high end content. While I degree to certain extent, the gun itself can be brought into any content. Of course, you will likely choose more AOE oriented exotics in lower difficulty content, but I digress. I’m gonna give Wicked Implement a 9 out of 10 for a rating, with a few points being knocked off for it’s funky appearance and unknown catalyst. With the catalyst, I can imagine that this score will go up, since the speculations right now are saying that collected Stasis Shards will overflow the magazine. This will be great for keeping priority targets in place for easy pickings.
