P&O Ventura cruise to Spain, Portugal & Canary Islands August-2023. Lanzarote.

Our fifth port. Teguise, the Valley of 1000 palms & the magnificent Jameos Del Agua.
Our excursion took us north towards to lovely Teguise, once the capital of Lanzarote. Being a Sunday morning, the famous (& very large) market was in full swing. Although busy, we still enjoyed wandering around the white-walled streets, with their statues, cafes and artisan sellers. The historic centre is particularly picturesque!
Leaving under the gaze of the impressive Castillo Santa Bárbara high up in the hills, we headed towards the north of the island, stopping along the way at the Mirador de Los Helechos viewpoint (the terrace of Los Helechos restaurant). The views were quite stunning: the Valley of 1000 palms & Haría; Punta Mujeres & Arrieta the east coast and La Corona volcano towards the north.
We travelled eastwards to our next stop by the coast; Jameos Del Agua. A fascinating place - a naturally made volcanic tunnel “pimped up” by Lanzarote-born artist Cesar Manrique. With its underground auditorium & restaurant, a sea water lake home to blind albino crabs & stunning tropical oasis, Jameos Del Agua is quite unique; we’d never experienced anything quite like it before. A must to visit if you’re in Lanzarote.
