First Transatlantic Speed Record Attempt

Описание к видео First Transatlantic Speed Record Attempt

In the summer of 2022, a year after completing the Mini-Transat race from France to Guadeloupe, Jay attempted to set the first transatlantic speed record, from New York to Lizard Point.

The WSSRC, World Sailing Speed Record Council, oversees all the official speed records, they set in place a series of steps to time and clock all sorts of sailing records around the world. The Transatlantic Speed Record is a pretty popular one and though it has been set by many different boat classes, it has never yet been set on a Mini 6.50. The record is to be done single-handed, non-stop and un-assisted, passing the Ambrose lighthouse in front of New York City and crossing an imaginary line drawn south from Lizard Point in England. It's a 2880 nautical mile challenge, an ambitious sport trial with a 245 year history, for which Jay will be the first in history to hold this record.

This video is the account of Jay's first attempt, which he had to abandon due to 2 hurricanes closing the crossing of the North Atlantic in the summer of 2022, he stored the boat in Saint Pierre et Michelon during the winter of 2022-2023 and will be attempting the record again in the summer of 2023.
