Born in Lessines, Belgium, René Magritte is one of the most celebrated surrealist artists of the 20th century. Known for his clever and thought-provoking images that challenge viewers' perceptions of reality, Magritte’s work is filled with paradoxes, humor, and mystery. His style often juxtaposes ordinary objects in unusual contexts, forcing the viewer to question the nature of reality and the boundaries between the real and the imagined.

One of his most iconic works is "The Treachery of Images" (1929), featuring the famous phrase "Ceci n'est pas une pipe" ("This is not a pipe") under a realistic painting of a pipe. The piece plays with the relationship between objects and their representations, questioning the assumptions we make about images and meaning.
