I tried to tell the story of Monty while focusing on the inherent tragedy ofhis creation.
Monty was a crow, with all the feelings of a crow and under the control of Esther. But then, through a painful, tearing process, he becomes a teenager, with all the feelings of a teenager.
And he's scared because Esther created him, and is threatening him, and created him for the sole purpose of seducing the dead boys. But she's his witch, his creator, the one his sole is bound to.
And the spell was broken. Not just from his feelings of love for Edwin, but the friendliness from Niko, and his jealousy towards Charles. He's feeling so much now, and so strongly, theres a glimmer of hope for him.
So he asks Edwin to the swingset. And he kisses him. It's something that must've been so hard for him to do, since he's at war with the joy he feels with Edwin and the threat of the pain Esther will bring if doesn't use this moment for manipulation.
But Edwin rejects him. And the spark of hope is stomped out.
So he gets bitter, all the pain he went through. For this. So he follows his mother's orders.
But he wasn't expecting her plan to be to destroy Edwin and Charles completely, so he tries to steer Edwin away, but he's caught. He's kissed by the Cat King, and it's nothing like what he wanted his kiss with Edwin to be.
And now Edwin hates him.
And it's everything he feared when he kept the secret of his maker from Edwin, and it's everything he feared when he went against his maker for Edwin.
But he doesn't have to feel that heartbreak anymore. Since he becomes a crow again, and all the human emotions can slip away.
And all it took was a little more pain, a little death.
