The International Conference on Indonesian Architecture and Planning (ICIAP) is a biennial seminar organized by the Department of Architecture and Planning, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia. ICIAP has been an excellent hub for exchanging knowledge about the most recent advancements, research findings, and best practices on a range of topics relevant to architecture, planning, and other related disciplines.

Since its first inauguration in 2012, ICIAP has been held six times. The first ICIAP was held in 2012 with the theme “Better Space Better Living,” in 2014 was “Space for the Next Generation,” in 2016 was “Inclusive Space, Enriching Culture,” in 2018 was “Design and Planning in the Disruptive Era,” in 2020 was “Complexity: Design, Planning, and Innovation,” in 2022 was “Beyond Sustainability in Design, Planning, and Innovation”.

This year, the 7th ICIAP will delve into the concept of “Future Living: Reimagining Holistic Sustainable Built Environment”. Planning and architectural design is inherently about looking ahead. The future orientation is crucial given the challenges confronted in this era of volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA). Hence, there is a need to reconceptualize the idea of sustainability to enable more future-oriented interventions around architecture and urban/regional planning while addressing the current development problems.
