Bishop Talk: White Christian Nationalism and the Black Church’s Prophetic Witness with Rev. Dr. DeWayne Davis

Dr. Davis is the son of a Church of God in Christ jurisdictional bishop father and a missionary mother.
 
Dr. Davis grew up in the Black Pentecostal tradition in Mississippi, but also worked for three Caucasian Members of the U.S. House of Representatives, worked for the predominantly white Episcopal Church, was ordained in the mostly white Metropolitan Community Churches movement, and was lead pastor of both an MCC and a Congregational church (both predominantly white) while also being very involved in the Black led Fellowship of Affirming Ministries (TFAM) affiliated with the predominantly white United Church of Christ. He is a former Chaplain for the Minnesota State Senate and is currently a candidate for the office of Mayor of Minneapolis.
 
DeWayne is a graduate of Howard University, Wesley Theological Seminary (MDiv), and Luther Seminary (DMin).
 
The four areas of focus on the vodcast with Dr. Davis will be:
 
1.   Exploring the work and impact of Mississippi native Unita Zelma Blackwell.
 
2.  Exploring the work and impact of Mississippi native Fannie Lou Hamner.
 
3.  Looking at the COGIC historical response to racism (and its founding in response to racism in the Assemblies of God).
 
4.  Discussing White Christian Nationalism and the Black Church’s Prophetic Witness in 2025 and beyond.
