My backdrop fell down :,(
Room's a mess...
Just a bunch of test footage I've been messing with over the last few months. Had enough for a video so thought I'd put something together. Hope to make more videos soon.
A review of the 1/144 Entry Grade RX-78-2 Gundam [US] (American Type). It's a Target exclusive Gunpla meant for beginners, but I always enjoy seeing how Bandai manages to streamline basic Gundam builds.

-- Production Notes For Future Me to Laugh At --
Don't even know where to start with the production notes... This review is really just a bunch of test footage. Just took a day every couple of weeks to shoot some footage, look over it, realize it's terrible, then repeat a few days later. No real goal, just messing around.
This is the first review shot with my Canon R5. It looks way better than the Canon 6D mk II. Although the images are too large, so I have to export them in a lower quality in order to edit videos with them. I also can't use 4k or clog, as my computer can't process them. Very frustrating. My computer is the bottleneck at this point.
I bought a cheap slider. It allows for those panning shots. It took quite a few attempts over quite a few days to get it working well. Figured out I needed to shoot the slider footage at half speed. This would give the R5 time to maintain focus, and Premiere enough frames to stabilize. Then just 2x the speed and we have smooth panning shots! Although it was an added step to re-export the footage, as I didn't have enough space on my computer to store the originals.
The slider didn't do much with the black backdrop though. The panning effect only works if it's in reference to a background. So, I decided to build a little set, fill it with Gunpla, and put in my media collection for added color. Of course it's so out of focus it really doesn't matter, but still, it made for better panning shots. I also like the 2 new colored LED's I bought. I plan to change background color for each kit. Anyway, shouts out if you name can the movie poster in the background lol
I rented the Canon RF 100mm Macro lens for a week. I found it REALLY helped with the slider footage as it allowed me to get way closer to the kit. With this being 1/144, I had focus issues with my usual Sigma 50mm, so I decided to try a dedicated macro lens and it's a world of difference. Sure, I can't use it for the standard turntable shots as it's too telephoto but for panning shots / close up photography, it's leagues better. I don't own it though, so now I have to wonder if I should blow $1,200 or continue to rent it for $100 a week and just shoot 3 videos in that window.
I guess it's time to talk about the actual review though lol
The script on this is VERY weak. I basically just pumped it out so I could slap this footage on top and move on. There's a lot I skipped, and I'm honestly not happy with the actual 'content' of this review. This was 100% just to test out new video stuff.
The still images are very rough. At first I thought it was the added compression needed to get the Canon R5's images to work on my computer, but even after replacing them with full-res images, they're still blurry and jagged. I think I just zoomed in too much due to using that 50mm lens. Man, 1/144 kits are so tiny! The shots I got with the 100mm macro look great though... but I REALLY don't want to drop $1,200 on a new lens right now lol
The color balance is off between the stills and the video. Totally forgot all the color skills I got in the previous 2-3 videos. I guess a year off will do that. Need to read those 'production notes.'
The audio is just fine. You will notice the Articulation section onward is a different take though. Sounds calmer. I recorded it right after the 1st take, so fits in well enough, but I still notice the difference in energy.
Editing was annoying, because again, the images were too high-res. Not to mention I needed to export the slider footage (with stabilization / sped up) beforehand too. Then when I started editing, I found my usual style doesn't work without the black backdrop. Now cuts are more jarring as the background might subtly shift between shots. AAHHHH It's replacing one problem with another lol. Still, I feel this will improve my editing, so gotta power through!
Next video will be a quick review of the Millennium Puzzle model kit. Already shot it, just need to write the review. - EDIT Nov/17/2022 - Couldn't finish a script. Still, plan to get back that video eventually.
Been listening to a ton of Future Funk recently. Just good background noise. Here's my current playlist: • Dance With Me
