BERNINA record Vertical Gear, Stuck Parts, and Guerilla Timing notes.....

This video is about changing a broken Vertical Gear in a Bernina record 830. It also discusses the freeing-up of seized parts, and timing with no service manual (Guerilla Timing). This also generally applies to many Bernie models, like the 530-2, and the 730s etc. This gear is their Achilles heel. There are differing views on why these gears crack, but when they do, they are a pain to change, and have sent many Bernies off to the sewing machine rainbow bridge. My opinion is, that the gears crack as the result of the machine being stored where there are wide temperature swings. I could be wrong about that, but generally, I'm a good guesser. Anyway, today we saved a 1972 BERNINA 830 record from the bone bin, and all is right in the world......
