Are all gluten detection dogs the same? No they are not.

I was able to do some maintenance training with my dog Suki and my friend Kari’s dog Birdie. Kari is a gluten detection trainer.

Suki alerts to gluten by raising a paw and Birdie freezes on gluten. They both boop for an all clear. This was extra difficult for Birdie because Kari presents controls with her left hand and I present with my right. Birdie was able to adapt and generalize her behavior to meet my unfamiliar body positioning.

It is important to have alerts that work best for the dog. It is important to make sure they are physically comfortable for the dog. You also want to make sure they are able to do them in small spaces like between tables in restaurants.
