Can a beginner really install Arch Linux and get Steam gaming with a controller running in one sitting? That is the challenge I take on in this episode of my six-distro Linux gaming series.
I boot into the latest Arch ISO, launch the archinstall guided setup, and work through partitions, KDE Plasma, AMD graphics drivers, PipeWire, and NetworkManager. Once installed, I tweak pacman.conf for multilib, install Vulkan, add Flatpak, and get Steam running. With my controller plugged in, I install a game from my library and put Arch Linux to the test for gaming.
You will see the real experience: the confusing menus, the UEFI boot fix, Pacman in action, Steam setup, and the first game launch. Arch may have a reputation for being tough, but this walkthrough shows what it is really like for someone new with a bit of technical knowledge.
In the end I talk about derivatives like CachyOS and other gaming-focused Arch spins that could make life easier. Let me know if you think I pulled it off, or just drop an emoji for the algorithm.
