Tormach's Beginner Guide to Lathe Tooling

Understanding lathe tooling, what it does and how it works is a big part of refining finishings and maximizing tool wear and tear. There are a lot of options, so it can seem confusing, but it really isn’t once you understand the basics.

There are five types of lathe tooling, external tooling, boring bars, drills, thread-making drills, and parting tools. All of these tools work together depending on which application you are looking to accomplish to make a part. Throughout the video we go into depth on what each one is used for, and how they do end up working together to create the part that you are looking for.

Lathe tools can also come in three different varieties, left hand tools, right hand tools, and neutral tools. This is exactly what it sounds and goes on the left, right or middle of the part you are looking to cut with the lathe tooling.
