Bharmour, formally known as Brahmpura, was the ancient capital of Chamba district, India. Situated at an altitude of 7000 feet in the Budhil valley 65 KM to the south-east of Chamba, Bharmour is known for its scenic beauty and for its ancient temples. In winters, the temperature gets quite low and in summer temperature is mild. Months in which Bharmour can be visited are April to October as in winters the land there can get under snow as high as 5--6 Ft. The star attraction of Bharmour is the Manimahesh Lake (also known as Dal Lake, Mani Mahesh), is a high altitude lake (elevation 4,080 metres (13,390 ft)) situated close to the Manimahesh Kailash Peak(18,547' (5,653 m) in the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas, in the Bharmour subdivision of Chamba district of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The Manimahesh Kailash peak that stands high close to the lake is home of देवाधिदेव महादेव भगवान शंकर Lord Shiva . This place is second to the Lake Mansarovar in its religious significance. To reach the lake one drives for an hour ahead of Bharmour to the road end at village Hadsar, about 13kms away. From there you have to trek for 4hrs to reach the Holy lake. How to reach Bharmour: By Air: The closest airport is at Gaggal (Kangra) near Dharamshala which is 190 km from Bharmour. By Rail: The nearest railway terminal is situated in Chakki Bank railway station (CHKB) and Pathankot railway station (PTK) which are at distance of 180kms from Bharmour. By Road: Bharmour is well connected by roads with main cities of Himachal Pradesh like Chamba, Kangra, Dalhousie, Dharamshala, etc. It is 65kms from the city of Chamba and approximately 200kms from Dharamshala at a height of 2195mts above sea level.
