Camposol to Sierra Espuña Snow Wells Spain

Sierra Espuna Snow Wells
Drive from Camposol, going up to the top of the Sierra Espuna to visit the Snow Wells. Called Pozos de Nieve (Snow Wells) 26 circular structures, dug out of the ground, which once served as refrigerators. They date back to the 16th century, every winter local workers would head up to the mountains to store and compress the snow. With the arrival of spring, they would go up again to remove the blocks of ice and supply the nearby cities of Murcia and Cartagena.
