Leeds United arrived at the Stadium of Light looking to press their unbeaten run of seven games with a win over managerless Sunderland. The Black Cats had sacked Tony Mowbray after a run of underwhelming results and were starting their second game under caretaker boss Mike Dodds.

Leeds began with heavy pressure, but Sunderland soaked it up, attacked on the break and after the 20 minute marks started to gradually dominate the game. Leeds managed just one shot on target between the 20th and 70th minutes and only a world class save from Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier kept the score 0-0 at the break.

As Daniel Farke looked for a way through in the second half, it was Mike Dodds who found the difference with a bold substitution for the cramped Jenson Seelt on the 70th minute. Ten minutes later Jobe Bellingham nodded the ball in the back of the net to give Sunderland the lead.

Leeds would have a last effort cleared off the line near the end of the game, but in truth never really looked like winning this game.
