"Tropicos" is a multicultural music project by Rafaele Andrade that dives into the impact of globalisation on our virtual and personal relationships with other human communities. Inspired by the research "Futura tropica", by Juan Pablo Garcia Sossa, the project explores how the world is increasingly shaped by unequal, global and virtual relations, including societal conditions, standards, and hierarchies.
In "Tropicos", I explore language as the key factor to connect personally with different cultural backgrounds of an international public. The text is quite ambiguous: it can be from someone living in the south or the north hemisphere, and therefore, it also represents that we all suffer from the influences of unequal relationships and its economies.
Every song-story is used with the original narratives and expressions of each language and its culture. This project uses 4 languages —Dutch, Portuguese, English, and Spanish— to convey stories about the impact of globalisation in human relations through the areas and themes of fair work labour, transport systems, the construction of aesthetics, and land belonging. These extended song formats delve into the complexities of these areas by its virtual connections and their impact on cultural traditions. Personal narratives, including insights into intimate stories between the Netherlands and Brazil, creating a thought-provoking scope of virtual relations.
The project also engages in an ongoing dialogue on postcolonialism, using Knurl's electro acoustic sounds and visual identity to represent a possible new dimensionality of the world dynamics: the world's relations should not be only based on ‘south-north’ , but rather in the 3 dimensionality of global relations with nearby countries and cultures that shares the same ‘world tropics’.
Through this, "Tropicos'' communicates a universal message about interconnectedness, diversity, globalisation and the evolving language of music.

“Trópicos” é um projeto musical multicultural de Rafaele Andrade que mergulha no impacto da globalização nas nossas relações virtuais e pessoais com outras comunidades humanas. Inspirado na pesquisa "Futura tropica", de Juan Pablo Garcia Sossa, o projeto explora como o mundo é cada vez mais moldado por relações desiguais, globais e virtuais, incluindo condições sociais, padrões e hierarquias.
Em "Trópicos", exploro a linguagem como fator-chave para conectar-me pessoalmente com diferentes origens culturais de um público internacional. O texto é bastante ambíguo: pode ser de alguém que mora no hemisfério sul ou no hemisfério norte e, portanto, representa também que todos sofremos as influências das relações desiguais e de suas economias.
Cada canção-história é utilizada com as narrativas e expressões originais de cada língua e sua cultura. Este projeto utiliza 4 idiomas —holandês, português, inglês e espanhol— para transmitir histórias sobre o impacto da globalização nas relações humanas através das áreas e temas do trabalho justo, dos sistemas de transporte, da construção da estética e da pertença à terra. Estes formatos de música alargados investigam as complexidades destas áreas através das suas ligações virtuais e do seu impacto nas tradições culturais. Narrativas pessoais, incluindo insights sobre histórias íntimas entre a Holanda e o Brasil, criando um escopo instigante de relações virtuais.
O projeto também se envolve num diálogo contínuo sobre o pós-colonialismo, usando os sons eletroacústicos e a identidade visual de Knurl para representar uma possível nova dimensionalidade da dinâmica mundial: as relações do mundo não devem ser baseadas apenas no 'sul-norte', mas sim no 3 dimensionalidade das relações globais com países e culturas próximas que partilham os mesmos “trópicos mundiais”.
Através disto, “Tropicos” comunica uma mensagem universal sobre interconectividade, diversidade, globalização e a evolução da linguagem da música.
