Large software engineering projects are defined by a continuous stream of decisions that need to be made by everyone involved. Some small, some large, none of which we can reliably predict impact of. In this talk I examine examine the role of decision making in the development of software and I argue that we have sorely underinvested in the most critical skill required to be a software engineer and how we might change that.
