My name is Michael Castro. I'm an orthopedic surgeon with Summit Orthopedics, and my area of interest is foot and ankle reconstruction. Foot and ankle really kind of covers the gamut of the orthopedic population, from young children with congenital deformities to older folks with arthritic problems, and everything in between. And the everything in between kind of encompasses high-energy trauma, motor vehicle stuff, parachuting accidents, sports injuries. So every possible injury in an orthopedic realm is represented in foot and ankle in some way, shape, or form. I was actually involved in a motor vehicle accident myself when I was driving from Detroit, where I did my residency, to Arizona, where my first job was. And I was ejected from the car on the interstate just outside of St. Louis and had a fracture of my pelvis and my shoulder. So it really gave me a great appreciation for being an orthopedic patient and what orthopedic patients go through. I think the single most important thing related to success of treatment is education of the patient. Because I've - through my career in the last 14 years, if there's one thing that I've come to learn is that the more the patient knows about their problem, the more they can understand what you're trying to do for them. And the more they can participate in their care. So that hopefully equates to a better outcome in most cases.
