Give your CNC machine intelligent automatic inspection and tooling offsets with CIMCO Probing! Integrated into the Mastercam interface, programming the probe is as easy as programming a toolpath. Define the type of measurement to perform and the location to probe using a dialog that is easy to navigate. Once the measurement is collected, powerful inspection logic can be applied to control what happens next in the program to maximize productivity. Three primary scenarios are handled using if/then logic:
Within Tolerance - If the part dimension is within the tolerance you specify for this feature, the program continues normally. This tolerance window can be as wide or narrow as you choose to control the cut tolerances where you need them.
Re-Machining - If the part is larger than it should be, the most likely problem is tool wear. Identifying excessive tool wear and defining wear offsets is a common machining challenge that just got a lot easier. The measured size is used to define a wear offset for that tool to bring it back into tolerance, and then any necessary toolpaths are run again to achieve the correct final size.
Scrap - If the part has been cut too much, it is time to alert the operator and stop the program to save machine time being used on a part that may not be salvageable. A message to the operator is displayed and the program is stopped. Alternatively, if the part needs to be marked clearly as scrap to avoid it being delivered, an additional toolpath can be run to mark it or even scribe the word "scrap" onto the surface of the part.
