Join me as I explore the last few remnants of the former Rocky Point Amusement Park in Warwick, Rhode Island! Founded in 1847 by Captain William Winslow, the Rocky Point Amusement Park was one of Rhode Island's most popular tourist attractions, and one of its defining amusement parks. Featuring numerous rides, from roller coasters to Ferris wheels to haunted houses, the amusement park also drew in many famous musicians who performed at the site, including the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, and Weezer, among others. Unfortunately, due to financial concerns, the amusement park closed down in 1996 and has been abandoned ever since. Today, it sits in the Rocky Point State Park in Warwick.

This was my first time ever checking out the spot, and I found it to be really fascinating! There are unfortunately not many remnants of the amusement park left: the few defining features are the Skyliner (a sky ride), some abandoned water tanks, the base of a swing ride, and an arch that was originally used during the 1964 World's Fair in New York. Partially why so few ruins exist is because there were two fires in the park--one in 2000 and one in 2006--that devastated the former rides and buildings,, and shortly after this, much of the remaining ruins were demolished. While it may seem small, the Rocky Point Amusement Park is definitely worth checking out, and offers a glimpse into one of Rhode Island's most unique abandoned locations: a site that brought joy to many families throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.
