A new SEBI study reveals alarming figures on futures and options (F&O) trading in India. Over 1 crore traders lost ₹1.81 lakh crore between FY22 and FY24, with ₹75,000 crore lost in FY24 alone. Nearly 91% of individual traders experienced losses in fiscal 2024, with young traders under 30 hit the hardest. Despite two consecutive years of losses, 75% of traders continued participating in the market. Meanwhile, proprietary traders and foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) gained ₹33,000 crore and ₹28,000 crore, respectively.
