Chapter 5 – Drying process: What is the best way to treat humid air? What are the differences between the systems available according to the state of the art?

The differences between cyclone, biofilter and scrubber can be described by the principles that are used to separate the pollutant from the air:
Gravity is used in a dust cyclone when the air goes into a rotation. The weight of the dust inside the air and its friction with the machine envelope makes the dust stay and fall off while the purified air leaves at the top.
A biofilter is not only a structure of gross biomass in which the polluted air circulates and loses dust particles meanwhile, but also the filter mass possesses microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi absorbing odour for example.
A scrubber or gas washer uses a liquid in the opposite direction of the air washing out different pollutants.
According to the type of product, a cyclone (dust emerging from saw dust, SRF) could be sufficient.
A biofilter would be needed in case of an odour problem (organic waste).
Scrubber are needed to remove ammonia coming from manure, compost rests or digestate.
