San Francisco MUNI PCC 1040: The Last PCC Streetcar

Описание к видео San Francisco MUNI PCC 1040: The Last PCC Streetcar

While vacationing in the bay area in early spring of 2012, I had the fortune of running into MUNI Streetcar # 1040. 1040 has recently been returned to service after a full restoration by Brookville Equipment Corporation. This car has the distinction of being the very last of nearly 5000 PCC streetcars built in North America. Built in 1952, MUNI 1040 ran in San Francisco regularly until MUNI's original streetcar fleet was replaced by Light Rail Vehicles (LRV's) in 1982. For most of the time since then, the car has been in storage at MUNI. Now, once again, PCC 1040 is the "newest" streetcar to grace the streets of San Francisco.

For more information on this car or any of the other vintage streetcars that muni currently operates, check out http://www.streetcar.org

As always, enjoy!
