Hello! I’m Dr. Vijay Raghavan, Spine Specialist (Chennai). In this video, I explain a common but often missed problem in seniors: osteoporotic vertebral fracture (spine fracture due to bone weakness/osteoporosis).
Real-life case discussed:
A 75–76 year old active elderly woman suddenly had:
Difficulty turning in bed and getting up (needed help)
Severe pain on both sides of the hip
Pain worse with position changes
Even though hip X-ray was normal and tests for kidney stones were normal, the final diagnosis was osteoporotic vertebral fracture, and she was referred for spine evaluation.

✅ D12 / L1 vertebral fractures can present as hip pain
✅ Osteoporosis is a silent disease—many people don’t know they have it until a fracture happens
✅ Why pain may be severe during small movements (micro-movements) and may feel better once walking with muscle support
Who should be careful?
If you (or your family member) are a senior and suddenly develop hip pain / back pain / difficulty moving, especially with a normal hip X-ray, consider a spine cause and consult a doctor.
