VCV Rack - Venom Patch 2 (Benjolin Oscillator)

Описание к видео VCV Rack - Venom Patch 2 (Benjolin Oscillator)

This patch is a second entry to the May 2024 VenomTakeFive Challenge on the VCV community website (https://community.vcvrack.com/t/venom.... The Venom module collection comprises currently 39 modules in total (https://library.vcvrack.com/?query=&b...) including some very unique and innovative modules not to be found in other collections.

The Benjolin Oscillator is one of those unique modules, and made of two integrated oscillators and a special shift register called Rungler. It's this component that makes the oscillators behave in unexpected ways. The output can range from repeated patterns to complete chaos within a frequency spectrum from low LFO rates up to high audio.

The patch uses 8 Benjolin Oscillators that I've configured to mainly produce various forms of noise patterns to create an ambient environment around three tonal voices. Aside from a brief intro and outro, the whole patch is controlled by a single cycle of a slow LFO that is mainly steering the probability of quite a few Bernoulli gates as well as drive, gain, or level of a few filters and envelope generators, and thereby building a single long generative arc-like overall composition with a kind of peak in the middle.

The main voice is based on a complete 16-note melody, however it is never played as a whole, but only single notes or fragments that become longer towards to peak. This main voice is accompanied by two slow pad voices that provide a harmonic bed merging with the noise environment.
