Canada has more than 74,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19, and has lost more than 5,500 to the virus. Reuters reports that 80% of those deaths were among Canada’s senior population, those living in long-term care facilities, and nursing homes. The staggering number has prompted Trudeau to call for changes to senior care in the country. ‘There are serious underlying challenges facing these facilities,’ he said earlier this week, ‘and in the coming months, the federal government will be there to help the provinces find lasting solutions.’
